For the Thanksgiving break, we stayed with my sister until Sunday afternoon, so I have a few more days to blog about. On Saturday, most of the family went up in the mountains to go Christmas tree hunting. It's been a family tradition for as long as I can remember, but we haven't had the chance to go up for a while. So, this year, I was really looking forward to it.
Nathan, my brother, had gone up the week before and said that there was maybe two inches of snow up in the high mountains. And, temperatures had been in the 40's all week, so we weren't expecting it to be too cold. But, I bundled the kids up anyway (it's easier to take things off, then to put things on that we don't have), and I'm so glad we did. The wind up there was SO cold!!! But, we found our trees quickly, and munched on some cookies and hot chocolate. Then, while the rest of the family went home, Anne Marie's family and my family went further up the mountain for a cold, winter's picnic.
Me, all bundled up against the cold. I get BAD earaches if I don't keep my ears warm!

It was snowing by this time, so while Mike took kids for a ride behind their 4-wheeler, Anne Marie, Rachel, and I scrounged around for some wood for a fire! Yes, a fire, in the snow! We managed to get a good fire going, and then made pb&j sandwiches. It was such a fun experience - eating a picnic lunch in the mountains, with snow falling all around and huddling around a fire. These are the things that memories are made of!

After our picnic, Anne Marie's family went home, and we went to visit my grandparents. They've been sick for a while, so every time we go out there, we try to swing by and visit with them for a bit. Last time we were out, we took our video camera out and taped them while they were talking. It turned out so nice, that we did it again. Brandon "interviewed" my granddad and got him talking about when he was young. What a special thing to have this recorded so that our kids and grandkids can "know" Granddad and Grandma Goodrich even when they're gone. We had a good visit with them, but had to go back to Anne Marie's far too soon.

We went to church with them on Sunday, and had family pictures arranged, but due to some family members not being able to come, we had to cancel them. So, we packed up to leave, but our poor boys threw a fit. They DID NOT want to go. Scott even went and hid from us, hoping that if he hid long enough, we wouldn't have to go home!

We always go and chop our tree down too, around Vernal. Maybe we have seen you up there! It is a super fun tradition. I love that I can share it with my kids. Although we didn't get to have the snowy picnic. That looks great!
